A 22-year-old woman was killed in a fiery crash in Monroe County, officials said.

Mikayla Shay Singletary of Forsyth died when her 2017 Kia Forte burst into flames Wednesday evening, according to Monroe County sheriff’s spokeswoman Anna Lewis. The crash happened about 10:10 p.m. on Ga. 42 near mile post 19.

Singletary’s car left the roadway and smashed into a tree, Lewis said. The vehicle then slid into a ravine, where the blaze began.

No other passengers were in the vehicle and no other cars were involved, Lewis said.

The wreck remains under investigation.
