A car crash left a woman injured and her husband dead in Monroe County Saturday, officials said.

The wreck happened on Highway 74 about 12:30 p.m., according to Monroe sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anna Lewis.

Julia Stallings was driving a Ford Edge,  and her husband William Stallings was a passenger, she said.

Harlee-Grace Dean was driving a Chevrolet Camaro east on the highway, Lewis said. Stallings entered the highway at Norwood Drive, and the two cars collided, she said.

Dean and Julia Stallings both suffered minor injuries, Lewis said. Dean was treated at the scene.

However, William Stallings was seriously injured. Both Julia and William Stallings were taken to Navicent Health.

About 10 p.m., William Stallings died of his injuries, Lewis said.

No other details were released. An investigation is ongoing.
