Wake-up temperatures were below freezing metro-wide Wednesday, but forecasters are promising highs approaching 70 degrees by the weekend.

Until then, there will be one more night of lows in the 30s.

Cool midweek:

Lows early Thursday will be about 10 degrees colder than normal, bottoming out around 36, Minton said. She said Thursday's high will be a little warmer, reaching 64.

Rain returns by the weekend:

There's a 70 percent chance of rain Friday, along with morning lows around 50 and afternoon highs in the mid-60s.

The chance of rain is 60 percent Saturday, but Sunday should be sunny, Minton said. Weekend highs will be in the upper 60s, with lows in the mid-50s early Saturday and low 40s Sunday morning.

Chilly start to Wednesday:

Temperatures across metro Atlanta early Tuesday ranged from 26 in Cartersville and 27 in Canton, Alpharetta and Dallas to 29 in Marietta and Chamblee and at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
