Two women, one pregnant, were rescued from a burning Gwinnett County residence this morning after signaling firefighters from a second story window.

Both were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville to be treated for minor smoke inhalation, according to the Gwinnett County fire department.

Six engines, three medic ambulances and one squad, among others were deployed to deal with the incident. The fire was under control just before 11 a.m.

Officials reported the fire originated in the basement of the two-story house and there is extensive damage to the basement and smoke damage through out the structure.

The cause is unknown and under investigation.
