Police say Atlanta student killed in shooting may have been targeted
Police are investigating a weekend shooting in northwest Atlanta that killed a 16-year-old.
Atlanta police said the teen, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office as Jequan Strozier, was shot around 11 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lake Valley Road and Hemphill School Road.

Strozier walked to his home a short distance away after he was shot, according to police. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.
Atlanta police Sgt. John Chafee said Strozier was shot one time in the chest. Investigators found one shell casing at the scene, he said.
“At this time investigators believe the victim may have been targeted and they do not believe this was a random shooting,” Chafee said.
Strozier was a student at Frederick Douglass High School, Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Ian Smith confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The APS family extends its deepest sympathies to Jequan’s family and loved ones,” Smith said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, Strozier told his mother the day before he died that he was involved in a confrontation at school. His mother called 911 to report the shooting.

They say the victim's family informed them about an altercation, prior to the shooting. Police are looking into that and several other theories at this time. @wsbtv pic.twitter.com/1jiKi9UXVX
