A Snellville man died in a motorcycle crash Monday morning in Gwinnett County, authorities said.

Gwinnett police were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. to unincorporated Snellville, where George Butler, 44, was found lying unconscious in a driveway on Parkwood Road, about a half-mile south of Rusticwood Drive.

Gwinnett fire confirmed the motorcyclist’s death. No other vehicles were involved.

According to the police report, Butler was driving southbound on Parkwood Road when he crossed the center line and hit a trash can. He was thrown from the motorcycle and slid 50 feet into a drainage pipe.

The man’s helmet was not properly secured and came off during the crash, police confirmed. Authorities believe rider inexperience and speed could be factors in the crash.
