It was supposed to be a typical traffic stop.
About 11 p.m. Wednesday, Peachtree City police spotted a car with no tail lights and pulled it over near Ga. 54 and the Peachtree City Hotel, spokeswoman Lt. Odilia Bergh told AJC.com.
The officer ran the driver’s name through the system, learned William Henry Briley was wanted on charges of theft and arrested him.
Briley, of Cartersville, asked if his passenger could drive the car from the scene.
Big mistake, police said.
“Ensuring the passenger's license was valid, I learned he also had a warrant,” according to an officer’s summary posted on the police department’s Facebook page.
Allen Lloyd Mobley of Riverdale was arrested on charges of shoplifting.
Police then allowed Briley and Mobley to call their girlfriends to come get the vehicle.
Yes, you guessed it.
“When they arrived,” police said, “both of them had warrants, too.”
Danielle Marie Teigue and Katherine Slim McClearen, both of Fayetteville, were arrested on charges of shoplifting and theft, respectively.
All four were taken to the Fayette County Jail, and both cars were taken to a local impound.
In a Facebook post, police wrote “#cantmakethisup.”
