Gwinnett police are investigating a crash that seriously injured a woman and killed her unborn child.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said Sumayia Fardous, 26, was driving south on Buford Highway in a Honda Civic about 6 a.m. Saturday. Hi Jeon, 64, was traveling north on the same road in a Honda Odyssey, Pihera said.

At the intersection of Buford Highway and Amwiler Road, Jeon tried to make a left turn on a flashing yellow left turn signal, police said. Fardous crashed into the passenger side of his car.

Fardous, who was in the third trimester of her pregnancy, was taken to a local hospital. While at the hospital, her unborn child died. Two passengers in Jeon’s car were also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Both vehicles were impounded for further analysis, Pihera said.

Authorities said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident. No charges have been filed in the case, officials said.
