No one was injured when the pilot of a single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a northeast Georgia highway late Sunday morning.

The plane landed on U.S. 441, about two miles south of I-85 in Commerce, Commerce police John Gaissert told Channel 2 Action News.

Gaissert said the pilot reported he was having intermittent engine problems and didn't think he could make it to the nearest airport, so he chose to land on the four-lane highway.

There were two men and two children aboard the plane, which was en route from Charleston, S.C., to Gainesville when it made the unscheduled landing just before 11 a.m.

No cars were struck by the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.
