A pilot was killed Friday after his small plane crashed near a Cobb County home, fire officials confirmed. The crash happened about 7:20 p.m. on the 100 block of Vistawood Drive in Marietta.
The crash site is about 5 minutes from Kennesaw State University’s Fifth Third Bank Stadium and Town Center at Cobb.
A Cessna Citation I aircraft went down just three miles east of Cobb County International Airport/McCollum Field, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen. The plane was coming from Wilmington, Delaware and was enroute to Fulton County Airport.
A Cessna Citation I can hold up to six passengers and two pilots. There is also a one-pilot version.
Flames from the crash spread to the home causing it to catch on fire, according to Channel 2 Action News. The homeowners were at church during the crash. Their identities were not released.
All lanes were blocked near Bells Ferry Road and Rock Bridge roads, Channel 2 Action News reported. Smoke was reportedly seen from Kennesaw State University.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
