A popular pizza restaurant near Georgia Tech was robbed at gunpoint less than two hours before it was supposed to open Monday morning, according to Atlanta police.

Officers were sent to Rocky Mountain Pizza Company on Hemphill Avenue about 9:35 a.m., according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker.

A man armed with a gun had robbed the business and driven away in a van, she said. The van was later found abandoned.

The restaurant was not scheduled to open until 11 a.m. It’s not clear how much was stolen or how many people were inside during the incident.

No injuries were reported, Rooker said.

Police said the suspect was last seen running south on Fowler Street. He was wearing a black and white tweed jacket.

An investigation is ongoing.
