Cobb County police have identified a pedestrian who died Tuesday after he was hit by an SUV while walking his bicycle across a road.

Lewis Mitchell, 57, of Marietta, was walking the bike across Cobb Parkway about 11:30 p.m., according to Cobb police spokeswoman Sydney Melton.

Steven McCabe, 51, of Powder Springs, was driving a red GMC Jimmy southbound toward Cobb EMC Parkway, Melton said Wednesday in a news release. Maria Diaz, 69, of Marietta, was a passenger in the GMC.

As Mitchell crossed the road, he entered the path of the GMC and was hit. He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McCabe was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Diaz was not hurt in the collision.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
