Firefighters Saturday were still concerned about a mulch blaze that ignited several days ago in Cobb County and shut down Plant Atkinson Road near Atlanta Road Friday afternoon.
But "we have not been out there today for a change," Cobb fire spokeswoman Denell Boyd told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Firefighters were first called to Gunnison Tree Service on Plant Atkinson Road in Smyrna early Sunday, Boyd said. They've been battling the blaze off and on ever since, she said. But windy conditions, and the mulch-type materials burning, have helped the fire spread, Boyd said.
"We have been out there several times this week because it's smoldering," she said Friday. "We keep dumping millions of gallons on it."
The owners of Gunnison Tree Service have gotten three citations and the water department may charge them for the large amount of water used, Boyd said Saturday.
