A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after a collision with a car caused him to skid into a mail truck, Gwinnett County officials said.

Austin Caldwell, 24, of Cumming, died of his injuries at a hospital, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn said.

Caldwell was riding his motorcycle on Oakbrook Parkway just after 5 p.m., Flynn said. The man was in one of two turn lanes leading onto Indian Trail Lilburn Road.

Caldwell began making the turn and veered into the center-most turn lane, hitting a Toyota Camry in the process, according to a police report.

The impact sent the motorcycle skidding across the road until it smashed into a stopped mail truck, Flynn said.

Police are trying to determine if speed was a factor in the wreck.

An investigation is ongoing.
