A stage collapsed Monday night during a concert at a Rockdale County high school because a temporary extension built onto the stage didn't have sufficient bracing, the school system said.

Students in the theater program rebuilt the extension under the supervision of their teacher and the parent volunteer, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Approximately 16 students were on the stage at Salem High School when it collapsed shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, Cpl. Michael Camp with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said.

Several students were treated by paramedics for minor injuries, Camp said. Two students were transported to Rockdale Medical Center for further evaluation, but their injuries were not believed to be serious, he said. Both were treated and released, according to Channel 2.
