A man was attacked by dogs and bitten “numerous times” while trying to protect his 3-year-old daughter, Clayton County police said.

The attack happened Sunday morning at a home in the 8100 block of Flamingo Drive in Jonesboro, according to Clayton County police spokesman Officer David Portis.

Witnesses told police the man was in his driveway with his daughter when two large dogs charged toward the girl. The breed of the dogs was not provided.

The man jumped between the dogs and his daughter to defend her, Portis said Monday in a news release. The dogs bit the man several times on the lower part of his body.

A neighbor was able to grab the 3-year-old and carry her to safety while the dogs’ owner gained control of the animals, Portis said. The girl was not harmed.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Portis said.

Clayton County Animal Control took the dogs into custody. The owner received several citations, Portis said.

An investigation is ongoing.
