Police at Kennesaw State University arrested a man who they said had a gun with him while he was on the campus.

Guns were drawn as KSU police took Grant E. Dier into custody Feb. 13, according to an arrest warrant obtained by AJC.com.

Police were sent to the school’s east parking deck after receiving a call about a suspicious person walking around with no shirt on, the warrant said. Investigators believed the call was related to another call they had received about a man with no shirt on carrying a black bag and shooting a gun near Barrett Lakes Drive.

When an officer arrived at the parking deck, he saw 23-year-old Dier stuffing a black duffle bag under a red minivan, the warrant said. The minivan didn’t belong to Dier, officials said.

The officer drew his gun, detained Dier and patted him down for weapons. The officer searched Dier’s bag and found a handgun with an empty magazine, five bullets and three empty shell casings, according to the warrant.

Police also found a knife with a folding blade inside, the warrant said.

Dier told police he had just bought the knife the previous day and “was just excited to have it on him,” the warrant said.

Dier was taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on two counts of possession of weapon or explosive compound in or near a school. He was released Feb. 17 on a $5,720 bond.
