A man previously convicted of shoplifting remained in jail late Monday, four days after his arrest for allegedly trying to steal a Bible, Cobb County police said.
Ruben Eric Washington, 37, of Atlanta, was arrested Thursday and charged with theft by shoplifting after he was caught trying to hide a King James Bible in his pants at a Barnes and Noble store on Cobb Parkway, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"Said accused did exit the store with the merchandise, passing all pay counters with the Bible concealed inside of the front of his pants," the warrant states. "Said Bible has a value of $34.99."
In 2012, Washington served five months in prison after being convicted of shoplifting, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
