A woman was hit on I-20 after she demanded to be let out of her car after an argument, Atlanta police said.

Several 911 callers reported seeing the woman walking in the eastbound lanes of traffic near Hamilton E. Holmes Drive late Wednesday night. She was hit by a passing vehicle on the exit ramp, according to police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant.

“The victim had apparently been arguing with others in a car and demanded to be let out on the shoulder,” Grant said in a statement. “The occupants in the car continued to plead to the victim to reenter their vehicle.”

They followed along behind her until she was struck about 11 p.m. All vehicles involved stayed on scene to speak to police.

The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with critical head trauma. Her condition was not known Thursday.
