A 10-year-old who was abducted by his father from a Sandy Springs elementary school Thursday afternoon was found by officers Friday and is safe, police said.

His father, 33-year-old Dederick Floyd, was arrested in Riverside, Calif., on Friday, Sandy Springs police Sgt. Sam Worsham said. He told AJC.com that Floyd flew to California, but it’s unclear if his son, Xavier, was with him when he was arrested.

Floyd does not have custody of his son, who is a student at Woodland Elementary School, police said. He picked up Xavier without authorization, which is why he’s being charged with felony interference with custody, Worsham said.

The child will be returned to his mother, and Floyd will be extradited to Georgia to face his charge.
