A Jonesboro man who died Sunday in a motorcycle wreck in Clayton County had been pursued by Fayette County deputies prior to the crash, according to Fayette County authorities.

Jazzmin Deshawn Seay, 30, was speeding on a motorcycle that had no tags, according to deputies. According to a news release from Fayette County, a deputy attempted to pull over “a sport bike type motorcycle” near the intersection of Ga. 279 and Helmer Road. The driver, later identified as Seay, “sped away from the deputy on Helmer Road and entered Clayton County,” according to the release.

The pursuit ended when Seay crossed into Clayton County, according to the release, but resumed when deputies saw him again a few miles away, near the intersection of Ga. 85 and Pavilion Parkway. Deputies observed Seay reenter Clayton County and again called off the pursuit, according to the release.

The collision that killed Seay happened on Ga. 85 in Clayton County, four miles north of its intersection with Pavilion Parkway, which is in Fayette County.

Seay was travelling at a high rate of speed when he collided with a vehicle that had stopped at a traffic signal near the intersection of Ga. 85 and Webb Road, Clayton County police said.

Fayette County authorities said the motorcycle involved in the wreck in Clayton was the same bike its deputies pursued. A subsequent investigation showed the bike was stolen, Fayette County deputies said.
