Alleged car burglars recently learned the hard way not to mix thievery with Instagram.
Police in Rocklin, Calif. arrested three young men and a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of auto burglary, possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of personal ID last weekend.
Police tracked down the suspects after they found an Instagram photo online of the men posing with a mound of fast food — worth about $120 — that was bought with a credit card stolen in the burglaries, police told the Sacramento Bee.
A shift leader at the Carl Jr’s restaurant where the humongous order was placed told the newspaper she wrote down the license plate of the car containing the suspects. “We never see orders that big, never. And the fact that they would pay for the person behind them, and didn’t know how much that order was,” said Katelyn Hubick.
Another Carl Jr.’s employee posted an Instagram photo of the receipt from the order, which included five $6 burgers, five orange creme shakes, three barbecue chicken quesadillas, one bacon swiss chicken sandwich, two double western sandwiches, two orders of fried zucchini, six orders of cross-cut fries, two teriyaki burgers, with added bacon, two barbecue chicken sandwiches with added bacon, and five southwest chicken tacos with added sour cream, according to the newspaper.
“I think they’re kind of stupid,” Hubick said. “I think social networking is helping to catch people.”
