A Middle Georgia police officer’s use of a Taser is under investigation after he shocked a 15-year-old girl while breaking up a fight.

Three Wren police officers were involved in the incident, which happened about 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Pine Valley Apartments, GBI Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan said.

Two of the officers were on regular patrol in the area and one was working a special duty job at the complex, Morgan said. While on the property, the officers saw a fight break out between “several individuals” and tried to intervene, according to the GBI.

One of the officers deployed his Taser and struck the teen girl, who was “actively participating in the fight,” Morgan said.

The 15-year-old was treated by medical professionals at the scene and then cleared at a hospital, officials said. She was charged with affray and obstruction of an officer and released to her parents, Morgan said.

Investigators said the teen had been holding a child earlier in the evening, but was not holding the child when she was stunned.

Wrens police Chief Jamey Kitchens called the GBI to look into the incident Saturday morning. An investigation is ongoing.
