One person was found dead following a fire that raged through a home for nearly two hours Friday morning, officials said.

LaGrange firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Cherry Street just before 12:40 a.m., according to a news release. They were told there were possibly two people in the residence.

“Due to intense heat and a partial collapse of the structure, firefighters began a defensive attack,” Chad Dallas, the department’s deputy chief, said.

The fire was not brought under control until about 2:30 a.m.

“One of the missing occupants made it out of the structure with minor injuries,” he said. “Firefighters were able to locate the body of the other occupant inside the structure.”

That person’s name and the cause of the fire have not been released.

LaGrange police and fire officials are investigating the blaze.
