Jury selection is scheduled to begin Wednesday for the trial of a woman accused of killing her estranged girlfriend, an East Point police officer, the Fulton County district attorney said.

Danielle Alexis Parker, 32, has been charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the July 4, 2013, shooting death of 34-year-old Crystal Parker, DA Paul Howard said.

Crystal Parker, who had been named Officer of the Year in East Point, was a seven-year veteran of the department and had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Danielle Parker for six years, according to investigators. The two shared last names and had held a ceremony celebrating their union before later separating.

Three days after she was killed, Crystal Parker’s body was found in her College Park home. She had been shot in the head, according to police.

On July 9, 2013, Danielle Parker was arrested and booked into the Fulton County jail, where she has remained. Prosecutors believe jealousy was the motive in the shooting death.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Fulton County Superior Court.
