An Athens man was hit and killed Saturday night after running a stop sign, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Willie James Greene, 68, was driving a 1990 Toyota Corolla north on Double Bridges Road in Clarke County about 11:22 p.m. when he rolled through a stop sign at the intersection with Lexington Road, police spokesman Geoffrey Gilland said Monday.
At the same time, Ruby Jean Campbell, 30, was traveling east on Lexington Road in a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. She tried to swerve and stop, but was unable to avoid the accident, Gilland said.
Greene died as a result of his injuries. Campbell had four other passengers in the car, three of whom were injured, Gilland said.
No other details were released.
