Deputies in Oconee County shot and killed a dog after they say it attacked a child Tuesday morning.

The deputies were sent to the Oconee Crossing area after someone reported the aggressive animal, the sheriff’s office said in Facebook post.

According to the post, the girl was not bitten, but a school bus driver had to kick the dog off the child.

At some point, it charged toward deputies, prompting them to shoot and kill the dog, the sheriff’s office said.

The dog’s breed is not clear.

The child was taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said. Her condition was not released.

“The Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internal investigation into the shooting per our procedures,” authorities said in the Facebook post.
