A Clayton County sheriff's deputy is accused of sexually assaulting a girl who then escaped by climbing through a window, police said Monday.

Phillip Emanuel Richards, 42, of Jonesboro, was arrested and charged with aggravated child molestation for allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old early Saturday.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the alleged scene of the crime at a home near Jonesboro, Officer Ron Coloma with Clayton County police said in an emailed statement.

"The complainant indicated that the offender performed a sexual act on a juvenile victim as she was asleep on the floor," Coloma said.

The girl told police she awoke to find Richards attacking her so she ran, climbing out of a window and running for help.

Richards was denied bond and remained Monday night in the Clayton County jail, where he was being held without bond, booking records show. He was placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, Channel 2 Action News reported.
