A man who died in a car wreck in Jones County might have been trying to leave the scene of a domestic violence incident, authorities said.

Micheal Snider, 55, died Tuesday after his car crashed into a firetruck, Jones County authorities told AJC.com.

The firetruck was heading to Snider’s home on Morris Stevens Road, where his shed was reportedly on fire. However, it’s unclear if Snider was en route to tend to the burning shed or trying to elude law enforcement, investigators said.

Soon after the man crashed, officials found his girlfriend with injuries they say he gave her.

The woman was in the home when authorities arrived, according to Maj. Earl Humphries, an investigator with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. When she came out of the house, Humphries said she had “puncture wounds to the abdomen” and “lacerations to the neck.”

Humphries said Snider was responsible for the injuries. Snider had previously been charged and convicted of domestic violence in Jones County, he said.

The woman’s current condition is not known. An investigation is ongoing.
