A man died Wednesday, nearly two weeks after he was hit by a car on a Marietta road, Cobb County police said.

Matthew Guido, 55, of Marietta, stepped off the sidewalk and was hit by a 2002 Toyota Avalon driven by Carl Sylvester Fowler, 39, of Austell, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

The incident happened about 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 21.

According to police, Fowler was heading northbound on South Cobb Drive when Guido stepped off the sidewalk and outside of the pedestrian crosswalk. Fowler came to a stop on the sidewalk, Pierce said.

Guido was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.

Fowler was treated at the scene. Police do not expect to file charges in the case.
