Multiple drivers, including a Clayton County police officer, are in the hospital after their cars collided in the middle of a busy Riverdale intersection.

The crash happened Saturday at the intersection of Ga. 85 and Bethsaida Road, police said.

The officer was on his way to an emergency call at the time of the wreck, according to police spokesman David Portis.

When the officer passed through the intersection, a minivan hit his patrol car, Portis said. The patrol car spun into oncoming traffic and was hit head-on by a second vehicle, he said.

The officer and other drivers were all taken to a hospital. Their injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, Portis said.
