Several people were hurt Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle wreck that shut down all eastbound lanes of I-20 west of downtown.

The wreck happened about 9:30 a.m. on I-20 eastbound just before Lowery Boulevard.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of a 2005 Pontiac G6 attempted to change lanes to the right and struck a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero in the rear.

“After impact, the Mitubishi was lifted off the ground, overturned and crossed into the left lane and hit a 200 Nissan Pathfinder,” State Patrol spokesperson Tracey Watson said in an e-mail.

Watson said all three drivers, as well as two passengers from the Montero, were injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

All lanes were blocked for nearly an hour while authorities worked to extricate two of those injured, but were reopened about 10:20 a.m.
