A weeks-old baby who was bitten Tuesday by her family dog died at the hospital, according to a Hall County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The baby was bitten in the head by the dog in the bedroom where she was resting around 2 p.m., according to deputies on the scene.

Hall County Fire Services responded to the home in the 2900 block of Gillsville Highway in Gainesville and rushed the infant to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, agency spokesman Zach Brackett said.

The dog was identified by police as a husky mix. It is now in the custody of Hall County Animal Control.

The name of the child will be released once the family is notified.

It’s unclear if anyone will face charges.
