Police: Man tries to steal food truck, opens fire outside Emory University Hospital

Gunshots were fired outside Emory University Hospital early Wednesday morning after a man attempted to steal a food truck from the loading dock, officials said.

The attempted theft happened about 6 a.m. on Clifton Road near the Atlanta campus, according to a statement.

“Shots were fired by the suspect, but there were no injuries,” Emory spokeswoman Holly Korshun said in a statement. “The suspect is in custody.”

Wilson Gipson was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, carjacking, theft by taking, hit-and-run and carrying a weapon in a school safety zone, as well as weapons charges. He is being held in the DeKalb County Jail until his next court appearance Oct. 25, Korshun said.

Emory police officers are leading an investigation into the incident with help from Atlanta police.
