Authorities have reopened two roads near a Roswell cell tower Friday morning after a large sinkhole formed at the tower’s base.

Lt. Noah Caplan with the Roswell Police Department said the sinkhole took out part of a fence, a concrete pad and some utilities as it opened along Scott Road overnight. The tower is now leaning slightly, he said.

The hole was discovered by Georgia Power crews after they received a report of an outage to the tower just before midnight Thursday.

Scott Road and Eves Road near Centennial High School were closed for several hours while engineers evaluated the situation. The roads reopened just before 10:30 a.m.

Two nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, but those residents were cleared by the Roswell Fire Department to return home early Friday morning, Caplan said.
