A small explosion at East Coweta High School left a contractor with severe burns, a district spokesman said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, a contractor was working on an air conditioning unit Wednesday afternoon at the time of the explosion.

He was on the roof above the cafeteria, school spokesman Dean Jackson told the news station.

The contractor has been taken to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, Channel 2 reported.
