A suspicious package that prompted officials to evacuate the DeKalb County Courthouse on Tuesday morning posed no threat, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman said.

The DeKalb sheriff’s office evacuated the building about 7:30 a.m. and ordered a temporary closure out of an “abundance of caution” after the package was reported at the entrance of the judicial complex, agency spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said.

Decatur and DeKalb police were sent to the scene to investigate. Multiple streets were closed.

People started returning to the courthouse about 9 a.m. after bomb and K-9 units determined the package never posed a threat, Williams said.

Officials have not said what the package was.
