Baby in stable condition after pregnant teen shot at MARTA station

Jan 17, 2016

Police are searching for the culprits accused in the early Saturday morning shooting of a pregnant 15-year-old girl, who later gave birth at the hospital.

The drive-by shooting took place at the Oakland City MARTA station in southwest Atlanta shortly after midnight. The girl was hit in the chest and a 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg.

The girl, who is in critical but stable condition, was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident and gave birth after being taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, MARTA spokeswoman Alisa Jackson said. The newborn, a girl, was in stable condition, Jackson said.

The 15-year-old boy’s wound is non-life threatening and he is expected to recover from his injury. Because they are juveniles, MARTA has not released the names of either injured teen.

“We have no idea whether or not they were … going to the MARTA station,” MARTA police spokesperson Lyle Harris told Channel 2 Action News.

Police told Channel 2 that they had a lead on the suspect and several shell casings were recovered at the scene.
