A woman was shot near Northlake Mall in DeKalb County on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

DeKalb police said the victim was sitting in her car in the 4800 block of Briarcliff Road around 3:20 p.m. when an unknown suspect fired rounds into the vehicle, striking her.

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to survive, DeKalb police spokesman Officer Elise Wells said. Briarcliff Road was blocked ahead of the evening commute as officers responded to a shopping center near the mall.

It’s still unclear what prompted the shooting, which remains under investigation.
