No injuries were reported Thursday after a large fire destroyed a northeast Atlanta warehouse that held several businesses, including a counseling center, authorities said.
The fire broke out sometime before 1:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Edgewood Avenue, Atlanta fire spokeswoman Alyssa Richardson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The multi-use warehouse had at least three tenants, including the Heartwork Counseling Center, an electrical company and a printing business.
Flames were seen shooting through the roof of the structure when crews from several nearby stations responded to the blaze in Atlanta’s Inman Park neighborhood. The woman who initially reported the fire believed her husband was still inside, but fire officials said everyone had made it out safely by the time firefighters arrived on scene.
“They’ve contained the fire and are actively working to put it out,” Richardson said shortly before 2 p.m., adding there was a “ton of smoke.”
Large plumes of black smoke could be seen at the East Lake Golf Club, where the PGA’s Tour Championship is underway. Atlanta fire crews quickly contained the blaze, and the fire was out within about 40 minutes of the initial call, Richardson said.
Fire investigators responded to the scene, but officials said it’s still too early to determine an exact cause.
