A Nebraska murder suspect was killed Tuesday morning when members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force went to a southwest Atlanta home to arrest him, authorities said.
Jaquan Haynes, 18, was confirmed dead by the Marshals Service in Omaha, according to Nebraska news station WOWT. He was wanted in connection with the death of 19-year-old Nomi Herrera, who was found shot in a vehicle and died Oct. 30 in Omaha, the news station reported.

The GBI, which is investigating the shooting at the request of the Marshals Service, has not confirmed Haynes’ identity. According to the state agency, members of the task force were attempting to serve an arrest warrant out of Nebraska when someone in a home in the 1100 block of Mayland Circle opened fire.
Officers knocked on the front door of the home about 6:40 a.m. and announced their presence, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. When someone inside opened the door, a man inside the home fired shots toward officers, she said.
Two officers, including a member of the Marshals Service and a Fulton County sheriff’s deputy, returned fire and struck the man, Miles said. He died at the scene.
No officers were injured in the shooting, the GBI said. The GBI will conduct an investigation and turn the findings over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
It is the 96th such shooting the agency has been asked to investigate in 2020. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution also tracks officer-involved shootings that don’t involve the GBI, and those numbers sometimes differ from the GBI’s tally.
