A 13-year-old boy shot in the eye with a BB gun was in danger of losing his vision after he was intentionally hit, according to police in Cobb County.
The boy, whose name was not released, was shot Thursday night on Misty Morn Way in Powder Springs, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Although the alleged shooter claimed it was accidental, witnesses told Powder Springs police a different story, the warrant states.
“Said accused did point and fire the BB rifle in the victim’s direction, striking the victim in the eye and causing serious bodily injury,” the arrest warrant states. “Said accused stated it was accidental. However witnesses indicated the accused made an overt movement to point and fire the BB gun at the victim.”
A police spokesman said Wednesday that boys were shooting the BB gun at an outdoor basketball post before the gun was handed to a 17-year-old, who allegedly pointed the gun at the boy.
The suspect, Jassille Burroughs, was arrested at the scene of the shooting, charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery and booked into the Cobb County jail, according to police. She was released early Sunday after posting $25,000 bond, booking records show.
The injured boy was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital, where a doctor determined the BB was lodged in his eye socket, according to police. From there, the boy was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for surgery, the warrant states.
