A 12-year-old boy may have been bitten by a shark Sunday while surfing on the south end of Tybee Island, according to a news report.

“It was just like in the movies, it jumped up and hit my board then grabbed my leg,” Ayden Meadows told savannahnow.com. Ayden was with his mom, Raeshelle Meadows, when they spotted something gray in the water behind Ayden’s surfboard, mom Meadows said. Before they could get out of the water, the animal sunk its teeth into Ayden’s right leg.

Ayden ended up at a hospital where he needed 11 stitches. The doctor who treated him speculated it was a shark bite, but was unable to confirm because he had never seen a shark bite, according to savannahnow.

Ayden’s injury required 11 stitches, but the avid beach-goer said his close encounter with a shark won’t stop him from venturing into the water again.
