A man found dead inside a wrecked car along I-285 Moreland Avenue Saturday morning had apparently suffered a medical emergency before crashing his car, DeKalb County police said Monday.

Officers responding to an 8 a.m. call about a traffic accident discovered the body near the I-285/Moreland Avenue interchange.

“The driver drove into the median, blowing out a tire before coming to a controlled stop along the shoulder where he expired,” DeKalb police Capt. Stephen Fore said in an e-mail, adding that the Medical Examiner’s office would determine the exact cause of death.

The name of the driver, who was from South Carolina, was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
