For the Dallas Cowboys, that darn cat was lucky for just one game.

The now famous black cat scampered onto the field a week ago at MetLife Stadium during Monday Night Football, delaying the game between the Cowboys and the New York Giants for several minutes as state troopers and ground crews gave chase.

The Cowboys eventually rallied to win 37-18, but the most memorable storyline from the game was the cat, one of a reported 30 that live at the stadium, that somehow found its way onto the playing field.

As the crowd cheered, the undaunted feline meandered its way down the field and into the end zone, then in a Bo Jackson-like moment, disappeared into the tunnel.

By the next day, everyone on the internet was talking about the superstitious moment.

Fast forward to Sunday: The Cowboys were back home at AT&T Stadium to face the Minnesota Vikings.

Before kickoff, the Cowboys tweeted that the “MVP Rally Cat” would be in the starting lineup — perhaps seeking the same mojo that willed the team to victory in Week 9.

Everyone in Arlington, Texas, appeared to be buying into the luck of the cat. Even Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith showed up to the game in a T-shirt with a photo of the cat on the front.

The energy at the stadium was also good. The cat’s photo was displayed on the stadium’s Jumbotron video display as the Cowboy’s starting lineup was introduced. In the stands, some fans wore black cat masks. Others waved their black cat stuffed toys and black cat cardboard cutouts.

But this time, the good luck fell four points short. The Vikings won 28-24.

With a 5-4 record, Dallas is still in the hunt for the playoffs but is currently tied with the Eagles for first place in the NFC East division.

The Cowboy’s next brush with cats will be next Sunday when the team visits the Detroit Lions.
