A suspected bank robber’s getaway lasted only about 10 minutes Wednesday after police caught up with him at a Jonesboro gas station.

The suspect, Mitchell Jenkins, 42, of Lake City is accused of holding up a Wells Fargo Bank in the 7000 block of Jonesboro Road in Morrow just before 11 a.m., according to Clayton County police.

Police caught up with Jenkins in Jonesboro as he was pumping gas into a white Cadillac Sedan DeVille at a Shell gas station at the intersection of Tara Boulevard and Sherwood Drive, near I-75. While being questioned, police spokesman Officer Phong Nguyen said Jenkins tried to flee, but was captured. One officer suffered a hand injury while trying to catch him.

In addition to robbery, Jenkins was charged with giving a false name and obstruction. Police did not say whether he’d fled with any specific amount of money. He was taken to the Clayton County Jail.

Wells Fargo has been the target of several recent holdups. In August, police interrupted an attempted robbery of a branch on Windy Hill Road in Smyrna. That same month, three men were arrested in the robbery of a branch in the 6300 block of Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

A Wells Fargo branch on Floyd Road in Mableton in Cobb County was targeted by a lollipop-sucking bank robber in May.
