No conclusive cause of death was found during an autopsy for the University of Georgia student found in his dorm room, campus police said Wednesday afternoon.
Toxicology reports are pending for David Peacock Braun, a 21-year-old computer science major from Marietta, but the results could take several weeks.
Braun was found dead around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in a room in Vandiver Hall in the East Campus Village, Chief Jimmy Williamson said. Suite mates concerned about Braun’s welfare called UGA housing officials, who contacted police, he said.
“At this point, nothing conclusive has been offered as a cause of death,” Williamson said Wednesday afternoon. “Toxicology testing will be performed to help in this determination.”
Investigators do not suspect foul play and there was no indication the death was self-inflicted, Williamson said.
Braun enrolled at UGA during the fall 2011 semester, said Tom Jackson, the vice president for public affairs.
One of the his suite mates, Tevin Reeves, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution it was a smell coming from the locked room that prompted him to call dorm leaders.
“Then I started thinking how I haven’t seen our roommate in so long,” Reeves said early Wednesday. “He stopped playing his music for the past few days.”
When officers entered the room, they found the student dead, Reeves said.
Reeves, a junior from Marietta, said he and his two other suite mates were moved to rooms in another dorm for the night.
Braun was the third UGA student to die in two weeks, Williamson said. One student died from a terminal disease and another from natural causes, he said.
