The two boys killed in their apartment Monday were stabbed or cut, their mother suffered a fatal blow to the head and their father hanged himself.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office on Tuesday identified the victims of an apparent murder-suicide in Johns Creek as: Sindiver Grover, 52, his wife, Damanjit Kaur-Grover, 47, and their sons, 12-year-old Sartaj Grover and Gurtej Grover, 5.
Autopsies showed the children died of sharp force injuries to the neck. Such injuries are defined as stab wounds, incised wounds and chop wounds.
Damanjit Kaur-Grover died of blunt force head injuries.
Sindiver Grover’s death was ruled suicide by hanging.
Police Chief Ed Densmore said police remain at the crime scene collecting evidence. He would not speculate on a motive for the crimes.
“We are still operating under the assumption that this was a murder-suicide,” Densmore said Tuesday. “We will confirm that later when we get results back from DNA and blood samples from the crime lab to match it with the instruments that were found at the location.”
Neighbors say the Grovers were a happy couple. Police said their visit to the gated Aylesbury Farms apartment a little before noon Monday was the first time they’d been called there.
Those who knew the family were shocked to hear what had happened.
Joseph Olander, who lives above the victims, called the Grovers “a very loving couple.” He reported hearing nothing unusual Monday morning.
Officers were dispatched after a welfare check was requested by a co-worker of one of the adult victims, Densmore said.
The homicides were the first in the history of Johns Creek, which was incorporated in December 2006.
