A Rockdale County Sheriff’s detention deputy was fired for having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate, authorities said.

An internal investigation determined that Anna Salva, 31, of Conyers, became close with the inmate when he began writing her notes while she was on duty, authorities said.

Salva admitted to all allegations against her, Investigator Michael Camp said.

“This is a situation that we take very seriously,” Rockdale Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Scott Freeman said in a statement. “These types of relationships are strictly prohibited, and are detrimental to the safe and efficient operations of the Rockdale County Jail. Although there was no evidence of a physical relationship between Salva and the inmate, it was determined that Salva violated numerous policies and procedures of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.”

Rockdale Sheriff’s officials said the four-year sheriff’s office employee eventually gave the inmate, who is not being named, her cellphone number and allowed him to make pre-paid calls to her when she was off, officials said.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office of professional standards recorded more than 500 minutes of phone conversations between the inmate and Salva, authorities said.

She put money on his inmate account, sent care packages under an assumed name from the jail’s commissary vendor and transferred personal funds to a pre-paid phone account so he could call her, Camp said.
