The man hit and killed by a minivan while walking down a Marietta sidewalk Sunday has been identified as Joe Lewis Burns, 78, of Marietta.
Marietta police spokesman Brian Wallace said the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan was northbound on Franklin Road when, “for reasons unknown at this time, the driver lost control of the minivan and left the roadway,” hitting Burns on the sidewalk.
“The minivan continued through a fence and down an embankment,” Wallace said.
He said the driver, 18-year-old Ashti Mitchell, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in stable condition. Burns was pronounced dead at the hospital.
